Technology

Many small radios, one steerable wavefront.

Technology

A phased array, not an antenna

The company described its technology as novel phased-array radio with unprecedented capacity and breakthrough economics for the new 5G millimetre-wave bands: many small radios, each with its own phase, whose combined wavefront can be steered electronically.

Steering is the point. The array spends its power where the user is, instead of spreading it across a cell.

Open interfaces

O-RAN, TIP and IWPC

The company’s site displayed the marks of the O-RAN Alliance, the Telecom Infra Project and the International Wireless Industry Consortium alongside its own — the standards bodies and consortia whose open interfaces it was building against.

Those logo files were not archived; the memberships are recorded here as text.

What the drawings show

The beam and stack diagrams on this site are this rebuild’s drawings of the described architecture. The company’s own animation — a phased array steering a beam, credited to Professor Ali Niknejad of the UC Berkeley Wireless Research Center — was not archived.
